Shaan Hundal Eyes India Move in Citizenship U-Turn

Canadian striker Shaan Hundal, who plays for York United in the Canadian Premier League, has made headlines by expressing his willingness to renounce his Canadian citizenship in order to represent the Indian national team. Hundal currently holds Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) status, which gives him a pathway to become eligible, but he would need to live in India for at least one year and obtain an Indian passport before he can play for the national team. His contract with York United ends in December 2025, meaning a move to an Indian club could help speed up the process. Hundal has explained that his desire to play for India is based on personal ambition, not financial gain, as representing the national team has always been a dream for him. It remains unclear whether he has officially begun the legal process of surrendering his Canadian nationality or completing residency requirements. As of now, he has not received a call-up to any Indian national team camp, but his interest has caught the attention of many fans.
