Germany Dominate Opening Match Over Curaçao With A 7-1 Victory

Germany made a commanding start to their FIFA World Cup 2026 journey, defeating tournament debutants Curaçao 7-1 in Houston.

Felix Nmecha put Germany ahead in just the sixth minute after being picked out by Florian Wirtz. Curaçao, however, responded well and drew level in the 21st minute through Livano Comenencia, whose strike became the nation's first-ever FIFA World Cup goal.

The Germans restored their advantage before half-time when Nico Schlotterbeck rose highest to head home from a corner in the 38th minute. Minutes later, Nmecha was fouled inside the penalty area, and Kai Havertz calmly converted the resulting spot-kick to give Germany a 3-1 lead at the break.

Germany wasted little time after the restart. A precise pass from Joshua Kimmich found Jamal Musiala inside the box, and the midfielder made no mistake in scoring his side's fourth goal. Substitute Denis Undav made an immediate impact, providing an assist for Nathaniel Brown in the 68th minute before scoring himself ten minutes later to make it 6-1.

Havertz completed his brace in the 88th minute, capping off an impressive German performance and sealing a convincing 7-1 victory.
