Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026 Postponed by CAF

 February 2026, the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations faced unexpected changes when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided to postpone the tournament. The competition was originally scheduled to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 4, 2026, but organizers announced that it would be delayed because of “unforeseen circumstances.” 

The decision caused frustration among players, coaches, and fans because many national teams had already started their preparations for the tournament. Training camps, travel plans, and friendly matches had been organized months in advance. When the postponement was announced only a few weeks before the start of the competition, several teams said it disrupted their schedules and created financial difficulties. 

CAF later confirmed that the tournament would instead be played from July 25 to August 16, 2026. However, critics said the new dates might clash with other major sporting events, which could reduce media attention and viewership for the women’s tournament. 

Many football experts believe the situation highlights ongoing challenges in organizing major women’s football events. Despite the difficulties, teams across Africa are continuing to prepare for the competition, hoping that the rescheduled tournament will still help promote and develop women’s football on the continent.
