Ronaldo gets a Red Card!

On 13 November 2025, in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match versus Republic of Ireland national football team, Cristiano Ronaldo was shown a straight red card after swinging an elbow at Ireland defender Dara O'Shea, his first red card in his 226 international appearances. The disciplinary panel of FIFA imposed a three-match ban for violent conduct, but under its disciplinary code invoked a one-year probation: two of those matches were suspended. Because Ronaldo served the mandatory one-match suspension in Portugal’s final qualifier against Armenia national football team, the remaining suspension does not prevent him from being eligible for the start of the 2026 World Cup, unless he commits a similar offense within the probation period.
