Messi Eyes 2026 World Cup, Fitness Will Decide

2026 FIFA World Cup may still see Lionel Messi in action, but the Argentine legend remains cautious. He recently said that while he would like to take part, his final decision will depend entirely on his physical condition closer to the tournament.

Messi, who will be 39 by the time the World Cup kicks off, admitted that age and his body’s ability to recover are factors he cannot ignore. He said he will evaluate how he feels after finishing his current club season in the Major League Soccer (MLS) and going through pre-season before making a decision. Despite the uncertainty, Messi remains hopeful and motivated. “I hopThee I can be there,” he said, emphasising how much the World Cup means to him and to his nation.

As of now, he has not committed to playing, but he hasn’t ruled it out either. According to Argentina’s coach Lionel Scaloni, the door remains open. For Indian fans and football lovers worldwide, the message is clear - one of the game’s greatest may well return for one more World Cup, but only if he feels he can give his best.
