City Group Takes A Step Back From Mumbai City FC: An Uncertain Future For Stars And Youth Players.

This Christmas has been a difficult and emotional time for Mumbai City FC fans, as the club’s long and successful partnership with City Football Group (CFG) has officially come to an end. Over the past six years, CFG played a huge role in shaping Mumbai City FC into one of the strongest teams in the Indian Super League, helping them win major trophies and grow professionally both on and off the pitch. CFG, which is best known for owning Manchester City and few other clubs around the world, has now sold its stakes back to the club’s original owners, Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor and businessman Bimal Parekh. The decision was mainly taken because of the growing uncertainty around the future of the Indian Super League and the way Indian football is currently being managed, making CFG feel that long-term stability in India is unclear.

This news comes at an already troubling time for Indian football, as the league has been on a long break, leaving players without regular matches and fans disconnected from the game. For Mumbai City FC, the impact could be even deeper. Without the global backing of CFG, the club may struggle to attract big sponsors, maintain top-level facilities, and keep experienced staff and players.

There are also serious concerns about the club’s youth system, as junior teams from under-12 level have already been inactive for nearly six months due to ongoing issues within the AIFF. With this new situation added on, the future of player development, team stability, and overall growth looks uncertain. While CFG has said they are proud of what they achieved with Mumbai City FC, their exit marks the end of an important chapter, and now fans, players, and coaches will be anxiously watching to see how the club survives and moves forward in such a challenging period.
