Achraf Hakimi Makes History as Defender

Football star Achraf Hakimi got the big honour of being named African Player of the Year 2025 by Confederation of African Football (CAF). Hakimi plays as a defender (right‑back) for Paris Saint‑Germain (PSG) and the Moroccan National Team.

He's the first defender in 52 years. since Bwanga Tshimen in 1973, to win this award! He beat great forwards like Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen to win the trophy. This win shows defenders can shine just as much as strikers, and it’s super inspiring for young players across Africa who play in defence.
